Been a while since I got some major PC parts, I had my video card upgraded a little while ago, but nothing like this.
For an early 18th present (with my own monetary addition), now have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
which for the boffins who want to know, it's 2.66 GHz with a Bus speed of 1333MHz and a 4mb Cache size. While it's no i7, it's good for me.
The CPU I used to have was an AMD Athlon X2 62 3800+ (dual core), AM2 slot and only a petty 2.0GHz, when I got it, it was good, but now, it just doesn't cut it anymore.
Obviously I had to get a new motherboard too, so I got a nice Asus P5Q SE Plus. Again, not the greatest, but it has 4 RAM slots (which is what I needed if I wanted to keep my 4GB Ram without getting new sticks. It doesn't have SLi technology, but I don't need it, it's a good motherboard for what I need.
Finally I got a new PSU, I've changed from an old Thermaltake 400W PSU, to a Big Ant 750W PSU, the tricky thing is, it isn't actually 750W in theory. What some PSU manufacturers do is advertise it's peak power, so while it says 750W, it's really about 550W.
So while it's not great, it's good. I probably could have installed this myself, but that would take time and effort I don't have, it was just easier (and safer) to install it myself in the long-run.
And that's me out.
Good luck and good hunting!
