Modern Warfare 2 -WarGate-

To those who haven't been following, Rob Bowling, community manager fro Infinity Ward released that IW's upcoming title; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, will not feature dedicated server or mod support.

Today, Jason West, (COO of Infinity Ward) released a statement as to why (probably false, it doesn't make logical sense), he explains that it will "remove cheaters" and "the insular communities and huge skill level disparities that the original game's community fractured into."

That is bullpie, absolute bullpie. IW believe that it will make it easier for new gamers to get into a server with like players, sure, it might, but a lot of the players from outside the U.S will probably end up on U.S servers. Having communities and Dedicated servers is a) cheaper for IW. b) easier for IW. And c) better for everyone. With IW's IWNet, you will -apparently- be placed into a server with like players, by skill, and distance. This sounds good, but I've played multiple games with matchmaking style multiplayer, and they all dump me into American servers, where by the time I shoot at what I think is a person, they're actually behind me.

The developers should have considered a system similar to Valve's L4D, where the Dedicated servers are there, but there is a quick play function, where the player tell the game what map, difficulty, and location, and it then finds a dedicated server based on the criteria.

The server browser itself isn't shown as a button in-game, but is accessed through the console. This system is actually really effective, as it has the best of both worlds, Dedicated servers, and Find a game. Not having dedicated servers is going to make it harder for long time players, as they will be shoved into games that are nowhere near them, or will be packed into a bunch of 12 year olds that just wanna be a general pain.

I hope that IWNet is a huge flop, and IW never uses it again.
